Hey everyone, I just wanted to take a moment and introduce a new feature I am currently planning on implementing with my blog fairly soon, Coming Up Shorts!, where I hope to focus on a number of older theatrical shorts. A little background to the idea, if I may…
Like many, I grew up watching a lot of the old theatrical shorts on TV, with a particular emphasis on the classic Disneys, Looney Tunes, Tom & Jerrys, Three Stooges, etc. Admittedly, for a while, I kind of grew out of them, but I have been coming back to them a little in the last few years, through some of the various shorts collections on disc. Of course, I’ve mainly been having fun watching them before some of the movies I watch, in a similar fashion to how they would have been shown in theatres.
I’ve been wanting to review them for a while, but, since I watch them over time (which makes it harder to review everything for an individual set when it takes you weeks or even months to get through it), I haven’t gotten around to it. Now I have determined to try adding a quick paragraph per short (just a one-sentence plot description plus my own opinions on the shorts, since I am not as knowledgeable on the subject otherwise) in most of my regular movie reviews. My plan is to include those thoughts either at the beginning of the review (when the shorts are extras/bonus features on the disc for the movie being reviewed) or at the end (when I am writing about shorts from a collection of shorts that would otherwise have no connection to the movie I review). It is also my plan, after I have written about all the shorts in a collection, to compile them all into one blog post (although exact method is still up in the air). I’m not sure at this how soon I will start implementing this, or how often, but I *hope* to try it out within the next month. Like with movie reviews, I do plan to go through new purchases as soon as I can, but older stuff may not happen as frequently.
My big reason for stating all this in a post (instead of just starting to do so like I would normally try to do) is because I am asking for feedback (once I do get started), as I don’t know how much interest there will be, and I would like to know, once I start, whether it’s a feature everyone would like me to keep or not. That, and since I’m still up in the air as to the title Coming Up Shorts!, I’d like to hear any suggestions for alternate titles (I promise to give credit where credit is due). Also, while I still have everyone’s attention, I know this should be just about my 170th post. I know last year, I put together my list of what I consider my Top 10 Dance Routines for my 100th post, and I’d like to put together some type of list for my 200th when I get that far. But, unlike last year, I don’t have a solid idea, and I would be curious to hear what type of list others might like to see from me. Thanks all for putting up with this post, and please be sure to let me know what you think!
